Tsarevich of Russia 24 April 1865 (NS) after the death of his elder brother Nikolai Aleksandrovich. Reign 1881-1894. Coronation 27 May 1883 (NS), Moskva. Called "Mirotvorets" (Миротворец) = Peace-Maker ("There won't be a war in Europe as long as I'm the Tsar of Russia!").
His kidney injury (of which he eventually died) was caused by a rail accident, as he held the railroad car upright till all the imperial family got out safely.
